I am pleased to announce the release of TextIndexNG 2.0.8.
This is a bug fix release and recommended for all users running TextIndexNG
with stemmer support enabled on Linux systems with a 32 bit unicode
database (at least
Debian 3.0 and Redhat 9.0 (maybe Fedora 2) are affected). This release is
also recommended
for users using the document converter support.
You can grab TextIndexNG 2.0.8 from

Cheers,
Andreas
Hi everybody,
I am very happy to announce the Five project, a Zope 2 product that
allows you to integrate Zope 3 technologies into Zope 2, today.
What is Five?
=============
Five is a Zope 2 product that integrates Zope 3 functionality into Zope
2. Five right now allows you to use the following Zope 3 technologies in
Zope 2:
* Zope 3 interfaces
* adapters
* pages (views), including skins and layers.
* ZCML
It is possible to add Zope 3 style views to your own Zope 2 objects, or
to existing ones, even normal Folders!
Five works with a straight Zope 2.7 installation, as long as Zope 3 has
been installed. See Five's INSTALL.txt for more information on how to
set it up.
We're in the process of evaluating lots more Zope 3 technologies for
integration into Zope 2. This is the right moment for interested Zope 2
and Zope 3 developers to jump in. We're looking for cooperation between
different Zope 2 projects so that this can be a foundational system for
us all.
Where to find it?
==================
Five is kindly hosted on codespeak.net, and is part of the larger "Zope
3 Base" project that offers an approachable area for developers of Zope
3 related software.
Five has a mailing list:
http://codespeak.net/mailman/listinfo/z3-five
Five is hosted in a subversion repository on codespeak.net. You can
browse this on the web here:
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/Five/
You can check out Five using the following subversion command:
svn co http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/Five/trunk Five
There's also a checkins mailing list for the Z3 project, here:
http://codespeak.net/mailman/listinfo/z3-checkins
If you want checkin access, please join the z3-five mailing list and ask
us there.
We hope to hear from you!
Zope Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of a July 2004
Zope Technical Solutions session. It will be held July 19th through
the 22nd at our Fredericksburg, VA headquarters. The "early bird" rate
of $1,995 per person will be extended to July 16, 2004. After that, the
rate increases to $2,495.
This four day course will familiarize students with Zope software
from introductory through advanced topics. We will
demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of Zope as an
Open Source web development and content management
environment. We will also explore Zope architecture and
provide hands-on exercises using Zope to develop and manage
a robust web site.
We offer several opportunities to meet with Zope's
engineering teams during lunch, including with Jim
Fulton, our CTO.
Course Objectives: After completing this course students
will understand:
- Zope's use of objects, methods, etc.
- Zope's Management Interface.
- Zope's server-side scripting language (DTML).
- Page Templates.
- Web site content creation and management.
- Web site security through user privileges and roles.
- Using Zope to integrate web sites with existing +
relational databases.
- Downloading/installing a Zope Product, and
- Introduction to CMF.
The course is intended for those interested in using a
full-featured open source environment to develop and manage
robust corporate internet or intranet web sites. This
includes web site designers, content creators, content
managers and web developers. Participants should be familiar
with HTML and basic web architecture (e.g., how a web server
and web browser work together). Knowledge of object-oriented
concepts and SQL is recommended.
For more detailed information about the course, including
pricing, travel and accommodations, please go to our website
www.zope.com or write to training(a)zope.com
Sincerely,
Rob Page

Z SQL methods, Zope's abstraction of SQL queries or commands,
support caching of results. They use non-persistent attributes
to maintain the cache. However, such attributes are thread local.
Therefore, it is very difficult to flush the cache
when the application knows about the invalidation of
potentially cached information.
'CCSQLMethods' use a cache shared by
all threads that can be managed by any of the threads.
They provide for fine grained cache control.
New in version 0.2:
* "flushCache" now works reliably across independant ZEO client processes.
Attention: "flushCacheEntry" still does not!
* a new ("FSZSQLMethod" derived) filesystem based variant
of "CCSQLMethods"
* no longer a location dependancy on Z SQL Methods -- you
can install "CCSQLMethods" in any products directory

I'm pleased to announce the release of ZODB 3.2.2 beta 1. This is a bugfix
release for the ZODB 3.2 line, and will be the version of ZODB released with
Zope 2.7.1b2.
The ZODB 3.2.2b1 release requires Python 2.3.3 or later. The ZODB 3.2 line
supports Zope 2 only; Zope 3 requires ZODB 3.3.
You can download a source tarball or Windows installer from:
http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.2
The changes since ZODB 3.2.1 consist of bugfixes, to BTrees, parts of ZODB
proper, and support tools. See the news file for details:
http://zope.org/Products/ZODB3.2/NEWS
Important notes about Berkeley-based storages:
Support for the experimental Berkeley-based storages has been dropped: they
created more problems than the community has been able to fix, and nobody
has done work on them for many months. Unfortunately, removing the code for
BDBFullStorage and BDBMinimalStorage is also delicate, and it still exists
in this release. We recommend not using it; the Berkeley code has already
been removed from the ZODB 3.3 line.
Note too that if you don't have "the right" version of Sleepycat Berkeley DB
installed on your system, ZODB's test suite may fail-- or even segfault --as
a result. This isn't an issue on Windows, because Python on Windows
includes a suitable Sleepycat release (4.1.25). The problem appears most
likely to occur on Linux systems with a bsddb from the later 4.2 line.
While there's no resource to work on Berkeley problems, I'll at least try to
disable the Berkeley tests for ZODB 3.2.2 final.

Very interesting! I just released a separate distribution of zope.interface
for people that want interfaces but not the rest of Zope; this was or
particular interest to the Twisted folks. More information is available at:
