This 'self' thing is actually rather mysterious; I did heard conflicting
things about it and when I tested it myself I got even more confused. I
mailed a report to the zope list a few weeks ago but haven't gotten any
answer yet that confused me less. Perhaps this would be my contribution
to the 'Zope Question Hour' when Paul asks DC's other Zope gurus to
answer questions we don't know the answer to. I'll recycle my question
then. :)

Definitely! Thank you very much. Even the answers to the most basic
questions are of value; and external methods are considered to be
'beyond basic' already, anyway. One of the intentions of the ZDP is
exactly to decrease the amount of basic questions on the zope list, by
answering them in advance.

I'll include these in the next iteration of the FAQ.
