[Zope-PTK] RE:ptk-0.8.2 install probs

After a bit more tinkering, which revealed that all the objects I had added where displaying the same (this object from the unkown product is broken!) error message, the Zope service finally died and refused to restart (lots of errors in the event log to that effect). I have a feeling that something was terminally corrupted in the ZODB. I cannot be sure that this was due to the altered settings in Win2K, or the attempted PTK install.

Luckily I was able to restore zope back to the pre 0.8.2 install from backup.

I'd still be interested to know if this is down to Win2K or the PTK, if only to warn people not to turn off the disk indexing!

Cheers

Paul

Original Message:

OS: Windows 2000 Server
Zope version: Zope 2.2.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86)
Python version: 1.5.2 (#0, Jul 30 1999, 09:52:18) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)]

I am having problems installing the PTK 0.8.2. Prior to today I had a working PTK which I got from CVS about a fortnight ago. I tried 0.8.1 yesterday but experienced problems extracting the tar ball over the existing installation using winzip. I kept getting an error that the output file DublinCore.py could not be created. This may have been a problem that I introduced fiddling with the disk indexing options in W2K, but I cannot be sure.

Anyway I got around this problem this morning by moving the PortalDemo and PortalBase Directories out of lib/python/products and then extracting the 0.8.2 tar ball. This went OK this time.

On restarting Zope and connecting to the management page I can see my test portal (called portal). Next to it is the error message

Portal(this object from the unkown product is broken!)

PTKDemo and PTKBase are not showing as broken in the control panel, so I guess they installed OK.

Ahh I thought the existing objects need migrating. Following the installation instructions I typed http://localhost:8080/portal/manage_migrate_contents. This gives a message that the resource does not exist.

Maybe the demoportal.zexp needs reimporting?. I removed the existing demoportal from the control panel and tried to import demoportal.zexp. This gives the following error

I have a nasty feeling that this is down to something that I have done, but being new to Zope I am having a problem tracking the problem down. I do not have Zpatterns installed, are they required in this release? Any clues appreciated.
