Please try again, Tres. I've just logged in/out, and it's ok. (Someone
else's even changed the template)

Oracle's descriptions on this subject can be found here:
http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/3_0_8_qt/qt_por.htm
Nevertheless, you're right. They're supposed to be embeddable dynamic
content, very much the same as RSS channels, but with greater
content-presentation developer's tools. Each portlet can be created by the
content provider (using a SDK) and the user can decide to paste it on his
pages or not.

WebDB (former Oracle Portal) was a real pain to understand and configure,
despite their efforts to make it easy. I had not tested new Oracle Portal,
but new portal applications already do this aggregation tastks in a real
intuitive way, and this one from CA is a good example.

My key question is about how to structure the tools and products currently
available for the CMF, in order to offer those levels of easyness.

Please also take a look at this page:

OnePage can make "portlets" out of simple web pages, and so it's far easier
to set up a personal portal. (The page is a "shared" one from the portal
I've setup for me, online.)
