Yes, that's a cleaner way to look at it. I'm not overly fond of several 
instance_homes with only one software_home as I really want to keep 
different sites completely separated (i.e., when upgrading the software 
for one site I don't want it to impact my other test sites). But that's 
probably only me.

In this light an RPM is ok.
