 +1 from me.
 
 The original proposal has been to implement a separate method for
this; maybe this should be done insetad.

 I thought the point to break backwards compatibility and to get rid of
all the old cruft has been choosen to be Zope3, not Zope2.7, isn't it ? ;-)
