yes, that is possible:

let's say you have a variable named 
   obj_to_show
which holds the name of the object to show

then you simply type

 <dtml-var _[object_to_show]>

note the slight difference between the above and

  <dtml-var _['object_to_show']>

the last one would render the variable oblject_to_show.
