Well, regular expressions are not banned. They are just not allowed in 
the default setup.

I find it more interesting that:

from Products.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module
allow_module('re')

doesn't give you access to *all* of 're'. AFAIK group is not possible 
with this approch.
