This is also a problem on Solaris; this has been known for quite a while
(noted in http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Misc/InstallingZope.html), but
such mention doesn't include any other Unix using a non-GNU tar, though
doc/FAQ.txt (in Zope distributions) question #1 addresses this a bit more
generally.

Hi... You may want to update the Installation Instructions to reflect that
HP-UX v11.00 or 11.11 (11i) also require the use of GNU tar for Zope.
 
The bundled tar under HP-UX imposes a pathname limitation of about 100 chars
however it does /not/ complain when encountering a long pathname. It merely
cuts the pathname to the maximum and happily proceeds which causes a lot of
headaches when trying to get it going.
