I have no idea. There's an equivalent one which you'll find very useful too.

context.restrictedTraverse('/folder/object')
or
context.restrictedTraverse('../..foo/object')

For the daring product/external method developer there's also
self.unrestrictedTraverse()
Guess the difference.
