[Zope] Zope stops responding

After running normally for a while, zope will stop responding.  'top'
shows no activity on the zope threads.  There is nothing in the error
log.  zopectl stop doesn't work, and a  'kill -9' must be used to kill
the process so that it can be started back up.

A google search reveals that others have had the same problem, but I did
not come across an explanation or solution.

Any ideas?
