The fundamental step to provide persistency is to derive the target 
classes from persistent.Persistent. Like Tom Dossis suggested:

from persistent import Persistent
from persistent.dict import PersistentDict

class Demo(Persistent):
    def __init__(self):
        self.d = PersistentDict()
