[ZPT] how do I test the existence of a variable?

When you use tal:define="...", the variable is available in the same
namespace as 'request', 'here', 'template', etc.

So, you get this:

<span define="foo python:1"
  <b tal:define="bar foo | default"
     tal:content="bar">Foo</b>
</span>
