Back in September I proposed
    <img src="/something/pencil.png" alt="Edit (External)"
         i18n:attributes="alt=alt_external_edit" />

(see http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope3-dev/2002-September/002801.html)

which has the advantage of being backward-compatible, but it's true that
Jim's syntax is more in line with the rest of ZPT.
